dry-season

tropical-savanna dry season; openmeteo mean 23.5-26.1 °C; dry (Aug driest 0.9 mm/day); per Wikipedia 'from June to September, humidity is low, and evenings can be mild'; the surf and tourism high season

  • the surf high season opens — Canggu's 'renowned and challenging surfing spots' (Echo Beach, Batu Bolong, Pererenan) are at their best; the digital-nomad and expat cohort is at peak density
  • the mild dry evenings (Jun-Sep) make the beach-club and rice-paddy café culture the defining affordance
  • the peak tourism window (Denpasar was among the world's 10 fastest-growing tourism cities in 2018)
Dec-Mar

wet-monsoon

West monsoon; openmeteo mean 25.3-25.7 °C; wet (Jan wettest 10.1 mm/day, Feb 9.4, Dec 8.3) with high humidity; per Wikipedia 'rain falling mainly at night and clearing quickly'

  • heavy overnight rain; the surf shifts, the rice paddies are at their greenest, and the beach-club life thins
  • the cultural calendar of Balinese Hindu ritual continues regardless of the rain — temple ceremonies and dance/puppet theatre
